San Francisco Carnival 2016

The Carnival in San Francisco was this weekend. I was following a salsa group called Rueda con Ritmo. Rueda is a type of cuban-style salsa dancing, where all the dancers dance as group and switch partners. We showed up early to photograph the preparation and the make-up of the dancers. The parade is always on the last Sunday of May. This year the weather was extremely pleasant and we all know it can be cold in May in San Francisco. The group had invited a professional cuban dance group, the All Stars, from Santiago de Cuba to parade with them. The parade was composed to over 50 different groups and it took over two hours for us to get going to the official parade route. Solar Impulse 2- Takeoff from Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA

In case you never have heard of the fully electric, solar-powered plane called Solar Impulse 2, let me summarize what this post is about. Two pioneers Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard have decided to build and fly all around the world a plane that does not use fuel to fly. It’s a plane powered by the sun (and batteries) that can fly indefinitely. To prove it the pair of pilots and the large team of Solar Impulse are flying the plane across the world. They have started in Abu Dhabi last year and have crossed the Pacific and landed in Mountain View from Hawaii.
